Nathan's ART Shop produces temporary exhibitions within different spaces across London. The art world has certainly been shaken by the economic downturn, with restrictions to public arts funding and soaring property prices resulting in gallery spaces dwindling. Nathan's ART Shop is one of the newest additions to London's vibrant art scene. Launched in November 2010, the gallery's first exhibition opened in the stock rooms of a quirky independent wine merchant. Nathan says he wanted to create a sustainable gallery business in London. "I'm also passionately obsessed with wine, and once I started to combine art shows with wine tastings, it quickly became apparent that this was a winning combination." There are lots of benefits to the business' roaming ethos. Exhibiting in a 'pop-up' way reduces expensive overheads such as rent and rates. "Instead, we can set up events in higher profile spaces that we could otherwise not afford, raising the profile of the business to new audiences and making it easier for our known audience to make it to the shows." With fewer places for local artists to exhibit and funds at an all time low, this 'pop-up' model has become a viable and exciting option.
